OUR MISSION // We Interrupt This Program

Restorative Farms wants to grow a better Dallas. Our mission is to foster a vibrant and viable community-based urban farm system — an agrisystem — in one of the country’s largest food deserts: South Dallas, Texas.

Restorative Farms is more than just a farm project — it’s a catalyst for change in the form of professional job training including farm management, local entrepreneurship, economic redevelopment and, of course, growing & distributing fresh, nutritious, locally grown food. 

We believe that with a system-based approach, Dallas can leapfrog other cities’ farming initiatives and become the leading urban agrisystem in the nation. 

Our goal is no less than to rebuild the local food system and re-create an inclusive economy for the local citizens by “interrupting” the destructive cycle of the economic & environmental systems currently in place.

WHAT’S THERE AND WHAT WE BRING TO THE TABLE //

Restorative Farms is based on over ten years of active research from a mix of non-profit organizations, local community leaders, locally-engaged academics, and entrepreneurs, all of whom want to help regrow this proud, hard-working community for the betterment of everyone.  South Dallas already has the people power, the land, the knowledge, and the desire to overcome systematic exclusion.

We’re building out a full systems approach to this problem from “seed to nuts”: input & resource variables, associated costs, precise amount of labor needed, a road map of viable outlets & outputs, and the training/knowledge base to run it all.

HATCHER FARMS //

Hatcher Farms is our model. It’s our training ground — literally and figuratively. We’re out to train as many local citizens as possible in the art & science of growing and harvesting local, organic, nutritious food.

THE SEEDLING FARM //

We already operate a successful Seedling Farm — Martin Luther King Freedom Garden — that will serve as the first “Hub” of our overall venture and which supplies Hatcher Farms as well as several other urban farms in the South Dallas area which Restorative Farms helps manage.
